Disapointing... - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

I saw this movie on a plane and couldnt stand it. The voice and visual effects were pretty good, while the jokes just werent funny. I saw the first Ice Age and thought it was better. I wouldnt recommend it unless you are bellow the age of 2 (simply becuase you cant understand it.)

Hilarious even for a 16 year old! - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

im 16 and i love this movie! my friends and i wanted to go c it after church today and omgosh it was hilarious! i loved every bit of it!!! i give it an A+++++!!!!

Suprisingly amusing! - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

Ice Age 2 was very funny. Queen Latifa adds another great voice in this good sequel... It's worth your bucks so go see it. If you liked the first one, you'll probably enjoy this. The funniest character is the squirrel who is obsessed with his acorn. John Liguezamo, Ray Ramano and Denis Leary, three hilarious comideans, remai the main characters. This movie was very funny and a well made sequel.

A nice family movie. - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

Yes, it is a very nice family movie, sprinkled with a little bit of comedy. I'll admit it was good, but it can't beat the original. Even though this one was funnier.

Don't take the kids - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

Come on its suppose to be a kids movie. The language was inapproiate for any child and the inuendo stuff well, its not for my family. I left soon after it started. What a waste of time and money, all we I ended up with was a upset child cellebrating his 5th B-day.

Great!! - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

Funny funny and i like it!!! Wish more movies were like this one!!! The kids liked it and almost of all the people were having a really good time.

Nothing to care about except the money - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

The original "Ice Age," coming amid a flood of hugely popular Pixar and Dreamworks releases, was a well-written story that made you care about its characters. You understood the motivation for each one's actions, which created compelling interactions that resulted in a beautiful ending. "Ice Age 2?" It's all about the money. As in the money that sequals of successful films can generate. My advice? Don't bother. Not in the theater, not on pay-per-view, and not even on DVD. Every situation in "Ice Age 2" seems utterly contrived. Each actor (or at least their voices) sound as if they are going through the motions (the worst in Denis Leary's Diego). The peril that drive's the film's story is no longer character motivation, but the artificial contrivance of a flood because it seems that the only place all the animals are living is an ice-dammed valley. Can you say "Hokey?" The supposed humor of Queen Latifah's new mammoth character believing she is a possum seems solely to support the two real nwe possum characters, which are supposed to be the slapstick comedy there in case you get tired of the Scrat vignettes (not difficult), but are little more than tiresome. Sure, there were a couple of brief laugh-out-loud moments, but upon walking out of the theater, they were easily forgettable. (Compare that to the subversively gay hippopotomuses in the original "Ice Age," which still bring a smile years later.) The original "Ice Age" was a good *story,* with elements of humor that flowed naturally from that story. "Ice Age 2" is bits and pieces of slapdash frivolity that don't fit well together. Worse, there's nothing here to really *care* about, and so the whole thing becomes a pointless exercise. My advice? Skip this farce of a movie and hold out for "Cars" this summer and "The Simpsons" movie next summer.

The story melted along with the ice - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

Rarely does a movie cause me to lose respect for a company (the last time it happened was when Final Fantasy: Spirits Within came out, and I believe most of America felt the same effects), but I'm sorry to say that Ice Age 2 has managed to do just that. Where Ice Age excelled, The Meltdown faltered: Ice Age was a kids' movie, and it was meant to be from the start, but at the time, Blue Sky seemed to recognize that just because something is made for kids doesn't mean it can't be deep enough to thoroughly entertain adults. It had a simple but great storyline, perils and obstacles that were relevant to and stemmed from it (with the exception of the irreverent-but-inspired dodo bird scene), and character depth and development that kept it from feeling like a kids' movie. The Meltdown, however, seemed like a clone of every single animated Disney movie that's ever come out. The storyline was about the same as Ice Age (get object 1--the herd, in this case--from point A to point B), but it could have been condensed to a ten-minute movie and been just as entertaining; as it was, the entire movie consisted of a series of disjointed skits, and the only suspense was in waiting for the next one-liner: if Diego delivered it, he would be walking from one side of the screen to the other like he was going somewhere--obviously trying to duplicate his funniest moments from Ice Age; if Sid delivered it, the line was obvious and uninspired, devoid of any of John Leguizamo's usual creativity and playing off of Sid's phobias or dumb optimism; if Manny delivered it, it was overloaded with sarcasm and superficial anger, as though he hadn't changed at all since the last movie. In all, the main characters were reduced to their most prominent characteristics (Manny his grumpiness, Diego his cynicism, and Sid his idiocy), and the new characters were introduced in the same way. The perils and obstacles in the movie were unmotivated, and only served to make the movie longer. The only reason there were two predatory fish stalking the herd was to give the kids something to be scared of. But they were unsuccessful in that regard, barely achieving the status of minor nuisance and yet another unmotivated obstacle. But none of these complaints are why I lost respect for Blue Sky. I lost respect for Blue Sky because they didn't even try. They were banking on the success of Ice Age, hoping for a cash cow. They seemed to lose the focus that made Ice Age such a success: making a good movie, first a foremost, but a good movie that happens to be animated. They exchanged a good idea for a mediocre idea. They made an animation that happened to have a story. They sold out. Out of 5, I gave The Meltdown a 2. Just for comparison, Ice Age got a 5. Just add it to the myriad sequels that don't nearly live up to their prequels. Goodness knows we have enough of them.

Age? - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

I am 14, and a group of my frieds went and saw Ice Age 2. We loved it! There was not five minutes where one someone wasn't laughing! If you have little kids, and want to take them to the movies- but are sick of the boring, same-old storylines- take them to see Ice Age 2. I can garentee not only your little ones will like it.

Remember this is for kids - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

I went and saw this yesterday with my 5 and 6 yr olds and I believe alot of the critism for this very unfair. While it may not be in the same league as pixars movies it is still worth the money, people and THE CRITICS seem to forget that this movie is geared towards kids, especially kids from about 3-8 yrs of age. With that being said if you have children that are in that age range there is no reason not to go, this movie has funny parts through out i will warn you though it does have some languages issues that weren't needed such as a burro (they have him saying wild ass a few times) story by Manny. But overall me and my kids liked it and it seemed so do most others that were in the packed theatre with us.

"ice fun" - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

Today I witnessed another exception of a succesfull second part.. the first one was "Shrek 2" ... this movie not only catches the audience from the beginning but also gains interest through the end when our favorite prehistoric squirrel ends up being the hero of the story... I pretty much think that many people that saw the first one felt inlove with this squirrel and the writers noticed that, thank God there were more parts featured this funny animal, not to take credit of the other 3 characters but the best of the movie was the squirrel hahah... what a review huh, I guess all I can say is, go see it, you'll have a good time and you are not going to get out wanting your money back !

Will melt your heart! - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

What a great family movie! The melt down showed compassion, suspense, humor, and a happy ending. What more could you want? The characters had depth and wamrth. They took family to a new meaning. I highly recommend this movie for all families and young at heart.

Disappointing - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

The sequal of the original Ice Age was definitely just a sequal - it came short in every area except visuals and animations, which remained similar as the first one. The story was not as captivating as the first one, the jokes were often forced rather than natural and implicit, and there were too many "near-death" scenes. In all, the movie was forced and targeted mainly at kids, whereas the first one was good for both kids and grown-ups. I felt that I was watching a children movie, which is what it is. But the movie rarely displayed any seriousness and complexity. It attempted too much to create funny scenes that often did not connect to the overall story. Even the squirel was much more evolved and death-defying than in the first movie. I would wait for the DVD and see it then. It is still a good movie, but not a great one.

Better than the original. - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

I found The Meltdown to be funnier and more entertaining than the first Ice Age. I am actually very suprised that I enjoyed it this much. I loved the first Ice Age, but this one entertained me a bit more. The characters also have some more interesting and more sort of adult humor than humor that children of the age of 8 will understand. This movie is more appealing for the parents of the children than for the children themselves. Be as it may seems, Ice Age is a kids movie. I found the humor in the first one to be a little more childish. This one, (like have mentioned) has more humor that adults will understand than little children. This movie also has more scenes with SCRAT than the first one too.

Ahhhhgahhhgahhhgahhh! - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

I was lucky enough to win tickets to see the preview and took 4 middle school kids with me - WE LOVED IT. The theater was packed and the laughter rolled through the theater from start to finish - The Iceage movies continue to be a perfect balance of cool - funny - and have a great story to keep things rolling - THANK YOU - for entertaining us - and not just giving us an expensive seat to take a nap :)'

Ice age - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

I think this movie was really funny and I really enjoyed watching it. When I saw the first movie I thought it was really funny also! Its a great movie for the whole family, go and see it!!

Ice age: truly a meltdown - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

I loved the first one, but the sequel seems like they were running out of ideas. Some parts were absolutely hilarious! ...but other parts were inappropriate for kids, had mildly bad language, and had reference to adult themes (even though the kids probably couldn't understand it). I say don't go see it. Really.

Poor sequel - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

It was quite a disappointment. I truly enjoyed Part One but this sequel is really weak especially the storyline. Actually, there isn't much of a storyline in the first place. The whole movie is just about showing the characters moving from point A to point B with nothing much happening in between. Just don't go in expecting it to be like the first one and you will end up better.

Thsi is a good movie - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

this is a really good movie it is funnier and more enjoible than the first one it is a really good movie to wartch

The great mammoth love story - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

This animation was not as good as the first, but it was still worth watching on the big screen. The so-called boat the animals were piling on to almost seemed like a Noah's ark analogy. It was cute, and my 3 year old daughter understood the love story behind it.

Um..earth to critics.......it's a kid's movie!!! - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

What's up with all the pontificating about a CARTOON? "plot not as good as the first" "doesn't move fast enough" "no storytelling." Hellooooooooo.......this movie is made for kids, it plays to kids, it appeals to kids, KIDS LOVE IT! Just come right out and say it, you don't see things the way kids see them any more, you're too jaded, you're too full of yourself...whatever. From where I sat tonight, in the back of one of two VERY jam-packed theatres--both showing this movie--the uncontrollable giggles and belly laughs from the hundreds of kids all around me was music to my ears and medicine to my soul. I say anything that can make little kids laugh like that is good. Period. So you "experts" just hop back onto your high horses and ride off into a real sunset somewhere. Leave the digitized and animated ones alone.

Disappointed - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

Ice Age II: The Meltdown was not near as funny as the first. The movie never had enough substance to its story and when other movies rely on hilarious humor when this is the case, THIS movie couldn't. Of course, I'm not a big fan of exiting a story just to see an offshoot rodent chase an acorn. I was really disappointed in the voice inflection of the female mammoth... it seemed at times the voice didn't go well with the lines/character, something I would like to think is priority in an animated movie. Overall, this movie was disappointing.

You know "ice age 3" is right around the corner. - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

This movie is a sequel. And a cartoon. About animals that aren't even around anymore. Running from water. So, basically, I wasn't expecting much from it (even though I watched the first one constantly). I am happy to say that this movie IS a sequel but it's more like "Toy Story 2" than, I don't know, "Anacondas." It IS a cartoon but it FEELS real (thank you, technology). And it IS about animal-like things running away from water but it's also hilarious and clever. Actually, "Ice Age 2" is one of the few movies to come out this year that's actually entertaining at all.

All hale the fire king!!!!!!!!!!!!! - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

The movie and story is better then the first. But the story comes up just short then the first. Scratch is not as good as he was in the first. But there are two opposum take control of that. Sid gets worshiped. Manny thinks he is the only Mammoth. A mammoth thicks it is a opposum. Diego has a fear. Sid get the crap bet out of him by a unlikly person. This movie has everything. Some jokes are not ment for small kids.

Ok - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

I guess the movie was a ok but the seauel was really bad and it was too short. It had some bad words as well and i would not take underaged kids to watch a movie like this. The story is also really predictable and they basically give out all the funny parts in the comercial. If u have seen a lot of commercials about ice age 2 dont watch it!

Great movie! - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

GREAT MOVIE THIS MOVIE HAD THE BEST COMADY I'D EVER SEEN IN ALL MY MOVIES! THE CONTINOUS ICE AGE IS A GREAT MOVIE FOR KIDS!

This is not for little kids! - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

this movie really disappointed me because there was a week story line and bad languege and it was not funny. At some point in the movie I felt scared, now I don't know if that is what they wanted us to feel while watching this but I did not enjoy it. I don't know how we can take our kids to see movies with cartoons saying bad words and laugh about it! I really think they need to change what there are putting in these cartoon movies, for they are directed at our children! and please remember that kids repeat everything! If you need to go and see some of these movies first before you take your child to go see a movies please do so, in fact I encourage you to do so! The first Ice age was wonderful I did enjoy that movie that second did not live up to my expectations!

Cold as ice - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

So here we have it folks, 'Ice Age: The Meltdown': filled with a slow story, corny jokes, & absolutely horrible acting. I expected good things from this movie but was just let down. It starts off good, or so it seems but descends into darkness once the trying-to-be-funny jokes began to flood the movie. The only time I laughed out loud was at Scrat's attempt to trick the mother hawk into thinking he was a baby chick. Other than that the other jokes were mindless & predictable. But no, that's not all that contributes to this atrocity of a film. I can't forget the slow story. There's really only 2 things happening here, Manfred meeting & getting Ellie to realize she's a mammoth while at the same time helping the rest of the gang to hurry & avoid the flood. I think it's amazing these 2 things were drug out to fill 90 minutes. Of course, there was Sid's idiotic scene where he was kidnapped & proclaimed the Fire King by a tribe of sloths-yes, a very unnesscary scene indeed. And last, and maybe least was the horrible acting. Now I do realize that this is in fact an animated film & it's not the same as live action. But the actors sounded as if they were preoccupied with something in the studio while saying their lines. It's hard to enjoy a movie when the people saying their lines say them with as much personality as an orange. Hopefully once the third installment of 'Ice Age' comes around these things will all be fixed. So should you see 'Ice Age: The Meltdown'? Yes, but only if you have absolutely nothing else to do. You're going to have as much fun as you would if you were to stare at a wall for 90 minutes.

Mimicing kids - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

The first Ice age was fabulous! I ran to the theaters to see the second one with my 2year old and 6 year old and was sooooo dissapointed at the use of language in this movie. The word ass was used numerous times, also damn, crap, and "oh my God" were all said in this movie. Also induindoes about sex were used! Why in the world can't these adult words and phrases be kept out of kids movies??!!!

Language not at all appropriate for children - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

I was very disappointed in the language in Ice Age the meltdown. As a mother, I couldn't believe that I needed to worry about the words my 3 and 5 year old were going to hear next when I took them to see this film which supposedly is primarily for children. What parents want their children exposed to this kind of language as if it's okay and acceptable? Absolutely disgusting. It should have been rated pg-13. I don't think it should be targeted as a good, fun family movie to take your kids too. I felt like I was deceived.

D - for dumb humor - Wedding Crashers Reviews

I am simply let down everytime I get talked into going to an american made comedy. Who's rating these comedy movies... post pubescent boys and girls? I guess if you think bare breasted women, stupid cliches' and just plain dumb writing is funny... more power to you. I'll stick to the foreign comedies, until Hollywood can produce something more funny than this type of garbage.

Ice age: the sequel - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

Not really a great movie, but it was ok. Ice Age shouldn't have gotten a sequel, because how can there be another Ice Age!?!?!? It doesn't make sense!!! It was funny some parts were funny. But, there was no plot what so ever, although I do recommend it, but not fully recommend it. I did like one part when Scrat fought for the nut and the pirahna's tried eating him, and many other parts like that hot steaming water thing, but the one character that was so useless in the movie was that girl mammoth!!!! I did not like Whats her names part, she was so annoying!!! Overall Ice Age 2: The Meltdown was OK... Out of 5, it's a 3.

Ice age, the meltdown - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

I have to give this film an A to A- because I love the voices of Ray Romano and Queen Latifa. The fist Ice Age was really cool, but this one, I have to say, was a lot better. The only thing I didn't like about it was the timeline. Ray Romano's mamoth should have died during the ice age, because the real ice age lasted thousands of years. Instead, he is still alive and finds a girl mamoth. I liked the comedy, characters, and the romance in the movie (if you can call it that).

Tooo much adult humor for youngsters - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

Well we took our 3 1/2 year old to see this movie tonight and left half way through. We were very disappointed with it. It did not have enough kid humor in it to keep her interested she did not get half the jokes. They used the words ass, damn, and talked about "hooking up? even if my daughter was 7 I would not want her to watch this and pick up on those words. I am not too uptight with what I let her watch but I guess I was expecting a cute cartoon and a fun family night out and I was sad that this movie had to be so crude.

The scrat moments were the most entertaining... - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

This movie disappointed me..It wasen't bad, just satisfying. Going on how good the first one was, I was almost sure this one would be just as good. Turned out to just be another sequal that disappoints. On a more positive note, Scrat is back and better than ever. I'll never get tired of him! Ice Age II is definately worth seeing; just don't go in expecting a super-great movie. :)

Could't stop laughing - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

It is one of the funniest movies ever. My 4 year old, my 10 year old, my 29 year old wife and me (35) loved this movie. It's a truly family picture. The new characters are hillarious. I can't wait for Ice Age 3, and 4 and ...

Ice age - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

It was something I'd suggest to freinds...with, but mostly for the jokes, I wasn't laughing through the whole movie as i like to, but it was funny here and there. Compared to the first movie, I wouldn't say it was way better, but it was a little better, but go ahead and see for yourself!

Swearing within the first 30 minutes--inappropriat - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

I was unhappy with the movie. We expected a family movie--based on the commercials. However, it was a pg-13 movie unfortunately with swearing within the first 30 minutes of the movies--more than once--and not even necessary. Both children (2 and 4)fell asleep, and we left early. I have never reviewed a movie before, but I felt the way this film was marketed to young children was inconsistent with the adult humor and swearing.

Disappointing overall - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

I just took my young son to see this movie because we enjoyed the first one so much. Overall this movie was disappointing because of the lackluster storyline and because of the unnecessary use of vulgar language inserted into tag lines. When a film is marketed for children, it is inappropriate to blatantly insert vulgar language for a cheap laugh. There were three instances occuring in the movie where vulgar words were used. Queen Latifah as Ellie was brilliant as were the other voice actors, and the animation was dazzling. But, without a decent storyline, all that is wasted.

Just a quicke - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

Know the saying that sequals always spoil the party? Well if you dont thats ok, because this sequal to the 2002 version is so.... much better. I'll wont spoil any details about the movie, like the squirrel finally reaching the boiling point with his acron and the attempt by everyone except god to make sure he doesnt get it, but i give this movie and A+. This movie seems to set the bar extremly high for Shrek 3 next year. But for the time being, gab the kids and shovel at that 8.50 a pop and set down to one of the best movies of this year.

Ice-age meltdown - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

The best in the world! It is like a cartoon and a funny film Good creature Thank you for the film, i enjoy it

Delightful and sweet - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

The movies that we take our kids to are getting better and better. This is a funny movie; some of the lines are predictable. (I do not want to spoil it for you.) We enjoyed the innuendos and the jokes. Sid is a hoot we loved his one liner's! That squirrel works hard-does he get the nut? You will enjoy this movie to find out.

A note about the language - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

I thought the movie was great. What I don't understand was the need to put profanity in an animated film for kids. The movie would have been just as great without it. I know it was only a few words but if you only used a few; why bother with any at all. The visuals were stunning and the characters were loveable. The talent that was chosen to do the voice overs were right on the money. I just wish the powers that be would take these wonderful pieces of cinematic art stop tainting it with unneeded dialogue and fill the kids with enchantment instead of a new curse word to chant. Not appropriate for young children - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

My kids were very excited to see Ice Age 2, since we are all fans of the first movie. I have three 3.5 year olds, and normally I try to screen movies prior to the kids seeing them. For this movie, however, we made an assumption based on the first movie. We were all shocked at the content of Ice Age 2. For starters, at the beginning when they realize the ice is really melting and a flood is imminent, one of the ice walls starts to break. One of the creatures then comments, "Dam!" with the intonation of using the curse word Damn! As adults we can discern the difference, but kids won't realize this. That one scene alone would have been enough to deter me from taking my kids to this movie had I known about it. But that wasn't all. They also had a story line with some ferocious-looking water creatures. As far as I could tell, these did nothing to help the story along, other than making it very scary for little kids. They were already trying to outrun the flood, why did they need to add the scary creatures? They killed a turtle - didn't show him actually being killed, but showed him swimming in the water where the creatures were, and then his empty shell being spit up on the shore. They also chased and fought with the Manny at the end. At one point my kids were so scared they had their faces buried in my chest and didn't even want to watch. I enjoyed the new characters of Ellie and her brothers, and the animation was wonderful. But I will not let my kids see it again and wish I had known these things beforehand.

Childrens movie? - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

I dont understnd why they make a chldrens film and use the type of language as found in this movie. The movie is funny enough without all the questionable words and remarks. I sure hope they make the DVD version and edit it.

Ice age 2 - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

The storyline was incredibly good for a children's movie. This movie had several memorable scenes that make the audience want to see it again, such as Sid's "Fire King" scene, and the ending, which in my opinion was one of the best and most hilarious endings I've seen in a comedy. All in all, definitely worth seeing no matter how old you are.

Great movie - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

Great movie for adults and children alike. I'm 32 years old and really enjoyed it a lot. I was in a packed theater full of children, which erupted with laughter several times. I think it's safe to say that everyone enjoyed this movie. Outstanding animation, great story line, happy ending, good comedy. What more can I say?

Kids unfriendly - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

I was looking forward to see this movie and after the first 5 min. we herd the word ass several times. then all of the sudden this little animal pops up and yells damn. I have a nephew that was going to have a birthday party age 5 now he and his friends are going to see something else. Why did you have to put the bad language in a kids movie.

Funny - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

if liked first one you'll love the second one. for those looking for animated humor ice age is the right movie. continuing the fun from shrek, finding nemo, and the incredibles, ice age 2 is a movie for all ages

Ice age: the meltdown - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

Ice Age: The Meltdown is an alright movie that is probably worth watching with the family and children. Did not expect a sequel out Ice Age but the movie turned out to be pretty good. The movie turned out to be a decent movie that brings in some humor about the prehistoric age. The animals are pretty funny and are compiled with a cast that has been famous in some shows and movies. Can not really tell about if this movie could actually contend against Inside Man but it can beat out Basic Instincts 2: Risk Addiction.

A must see film - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

I really like this film, maybe its because off the outstanding computer animation. Some part of the movie are incredible detailed and its lots of fun to watch it. I really like it that Scratch has got a bigger role in the movie. He was the star in part 1 ;-) This kind of movies make you feel happy when you come out of the theaters. Its a must see!!!!!

Funny, but not hilarious. - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

Children 8 and under will love the movie. However the rest of the audience may have different reactions. The little squirrel is hilarious and probably has the best parts in the movie. The rest of the story is a little shaky, and I am not talking about the melting ice. The movie is definitely for little kids, but it just does not have the hilarity of the first one. If you are looking for a funny movie and are part of a family who loves ice, or loves kids movies, then this is the right movie for you. However if you are 10 or older and are expecting the same genius creativity that the first one has, then you might be dissapointed.

Retains the spirit, not the quality of the first - Ice Age: The Meltdown Reviews

Without a doubt, the best thing about this movie is following the adventures of Scrat, that mischievous, determined creature trying valiantly to get that acorn. This little fella goes through so much and still NEVER gets that acorn! If they made a film just about Scrat, I would watch it. The Scrat sequences in "Ice Age: The Meltdown" always complement the main story; the one of Sid the sloth (John Leguizamo), Manny the mammoth(Ray Romano) and Diego the sabre (Dennis Leary) traveling with the other animals to escape the flooding of the glaciers and the melting of the ice caps. Hmmm...global warming, anyone? Of course, being a kid's film, that message never gets hammered in, but it is still obvious what the film is hinting to. On the way, Manny gets worried that he is the last mammoth in existence until he meets Ellie (Queen Latifah). Unfortunately, she thinks she is a possum and that her brothers are Crash and Eddie, two ADD, hyper, energetic, noisy possums (voiced by Seann William Scott and Josh Peck). Everyone has their own little plotlines, like Diego overcoming his fear of water, and Sid being hailed by a bunch of mini-sloths who believe he is the "Fire King". And on the way, they face a number of problems such as ferocious vultures and sea creatures that look like mutants from "Slither". Then, there's the problem of the actual flood, which happens to be animated perfectly to get a cool, crisp image, but realistic enough to show all the little details such as ripples and currents. As a matter of fact, all the animation and CGI is much more advanced in this film, and gives us good access to beautiful images. The images of fur drenched in water are serene and show how complex animators are these days. From rushing waves of water to ice breaking to many unique species of different shape and size, the film makes the Ice Age look fun, rather than devestating. And the movie is in fact lots of fun, even though the plot is a little thin and that the characters and their world had already been explored in the first film. Fortunately, all the voice cast are charismatic and charming enough to hold a movie and make it entertaining, despite a weak storyline. Latifah, Scott, and Peck (a.k.a. The Possums) don't really add much stubstansially to the film. The movie belongs to the cast we love, that annoying sloth, the serious mammoth, and the cool tiger. I liked this movie more than I should have because it was set in a world I already loved with characters I already loved. Sure, this film's success banks heavily on your liking of the first film which is fine and dandy with me. This sequel keeps the same tone, same sense of humor, same steadiness. Both films after all were about documenting a journey. I was ever so thankful that this film didn't contain any modern-day pop-culture references that animators today can't afford to miss out on. Imagine hearing a "Brangelina" reference in this movie. The humor in this film is well designed and crafted so that it can be ridiculous without being overboard. Sure, the vultures sing a song resembling "Oliver!". But the director knows when to stop, and he does to move onto the next joke. This keeps the film fresh, upbeat, and fun. Sure, the "Ice Age" films will never measure to Pixar animation. But like a critic stated, this film is "oddly watchable" and it is enjoyable nonetheless. I'd give this a B
